André Kertèsz

Né en 1894 à Budapest et décédé en 1985 à New York, Kertèsz est un photographe.
Après avoir obtenu son diplôme d'honneur de la Société hongroise de photographie, il déménage à Paris. Il aide Brassaï dans ses débuts de la photographie. Bien qu'il soit proche des surréalistes et des Dada, il n'appartient à aucun mouvement. Il sera le premier à utiliser un Leica professionnellement. Il part pour NYC avec sa femme pour réaliser des travaux. Du fait de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, il y reste. Malheureusement à la fin de la guerre, il tombe malade et décide de ne faire de la photographie que par plaisir.


On reconnait bien ses photos car il joue beaucoup sur les reflets, les ombres, les déformations.
Magnifique travail exposé au Jeu de Paume à Paris de Septembre 2010 à Février 2011.

" My "mirror portraits" are double portraits (two pictures sharing the same frame) focusing mainly on the face and secondarily on the hands.

The first picture, in black & white and with a very classical style, has to show the physical characteristic of the subject.

The second picture, semi-abstract and in color, should give the viewer a very good feeling about the character of the subject.

I love his photos. They are so abstract, full of color, of movement, of life.

This one is particularly amazing. It is a photo of Yves Ullens with a painting of Pascal Courcelles on it. Perfect mix !
